Ashish Vidyarthi is an Indian film actor known who works in multiple language films, predominantly in Bollywood, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Telugu cinema. He is noted for his antagonist characters.

Early Life

He is born and brought up in Hyderabad to a music and dance background family. His father was a known Malayali theatre personality, while mother a known Bengali Kathak dancer. His surname came as a tribute to a known freedom fighter called Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, which was adopted by his father and later passed on him. He headed to Delhi for his education and did his schooling from Mehta Vidayala, which is a part of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan’s group. During his school and college days, he was known as a comedian and actor as well. He did his graduation in History from Hindu College.



As far as his career is concerned, he was associated with theatres but later got the chance to do TV serials over small screen called Hum Panchi Ek Chawl Ki of comedy genre by Sai Paranjpye. He then started doing a couple of smaller roles in regional TV serials and later was seen working in regional TV series as well. However, his career in film started with a supporting role in Kannada based movie called Anand. Since then he started getting good roles for different films including Hijack, Naajayaz and Baazi. Some of his recent movies in Bollywood include Barfi, R. Rajkumar, Red Alert: The War Within, Kisse Pyar Karu, etc. He is more active in regional movies including Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Bengali apart from doing English movies like Nightfall and Dam 999.

As far as awards are concerned, he has been nominated a number of places and have won a number of them as well. In 1995, he got his first National Film Award for best Supporting actor for the movie Drohkaal, followed by Bengal Film Journalist’s Association award under the category of Best Actor Award for the film – Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin, and then he got another award in 1997 from Star Screens for negative role in the same movie Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin. He was also nominated in the Filmfare under the category of negative character but failed to get the same. He is married and have kids, while live in Hyderabad. His upcoming movie is Begum Jaan starring Vidya BalanNaseeruddin ShahPallavi Sharda, and Gauhar Khan.
